Ampeg Svt 3 Pro Problems Mac With ThunderboltI play a Schecter Stilleto Studio 5 string and use a GK 400 Watt cab with 4 10s. I usually boost the bass and treble and cut the mids way down, then I get to the graphic EQ and kinda guess. ![]() That graphic EQ was mainly meant as a solo channelroom adjustment feature more than something to work in tandem with the 3 band. Id get your basic tone with your bass and the knobs and only use the graphic if you really need it as a tool. Report Save level 1 Fuzzy Bunny 7 years ago Simplest solution Turn the graphic EQ off. Cutting your mids like that in a band setting can make the bass disappear in the mix; try boosting your mids (center your frequency selector and turn the midrange adjust knob to about two oclock). The graphic EQ Cutting your mids w the knobs and trying to boost em with the graphic EQ just has the two equalizers cancelling each other out or muddying the other up. ![]() ![]() I love Ampeg amps, but their graphic EQs are a shit sandwich. Totally pointless IMO. Report Save level 1 7 years ago Scoop mids at home, boost in the band. I get too annoyed with EQ when there are frequency ranges attached. Yeah, there are times cutting 120Hz is exactly what you need but 99 of the time Im happier and sound better with an amp with only 3 tone controls. I have an Orange AD200 I bought for just that reason. Report Save level 1 7 years ago Its a good idea to start with your EQ neutral (which will probably sound better than cutting all the mids to start with), and then adjust during practice if you feel the need. A typical graphic EQ setting used a lot on bass is cutting some low mids a little to (around 350Hz) to reduce muddiness and boost some higher mids (800Hz) for more punchiness. Report Save level 1 7 years ago Set the eq on the head absolutely flat (no boostcut). Set gain to below clipping level and master volume to comfortable listening level. On your bass, set pickup selector to the middle and eq controls to flat. If youd like a rounder more bass tone then use the neck pickup only, if you want a punchier mid heavy tone select the bridge pickup. If you feel the tone needs more low or high end use the eq on the bass guitar to dial in what is needed. As for the eq on the amp, try to only use it to adjust your tone to the room you are playing in. Rooms with lots of reflective surfaces benefit from dropping 120hz and boosting low mids at around 250-350hz or so. A room with lots of carpetingbodiessoft surfaces can handle a bit more low end without getting boomy. Most likely with your old smiley face eq your notes were sounding boomy with little or no definition.
